My Citibank Nightmare....i got bit by a snake
Well, I paid the balance on my Citibank credit card last month. And unfortunately, sent the payment to an old Citibank credit card #.
Early this week I got a statement stating I was late and $26 of late charges tacked on.
I called Citibank and got pushed around numerous departments and was told they would "try" to transfer the payment to my other account and get back to me on Thursday (yesterday). They never got back to me.
I called today and they said they couldn't do it and would have to send back a refund and I would have to send another.
They transferred me back to the other department indicating they could waive the fees.
Nope, the operator stated I had been late before and would not refund the fees. Well, if even if I was late and to the best of my knowledge I never have been, this payment was NOT. In 20+ years of credit history, I have never had a late payment on my credit report and all my bills get paid electronically 7 business days before due date. I guess something electronically could have gone have gone wrong in the past but I really doubt it.
In a way this is comforting, I haven't generated a new charge in a couple of months and use my debit card exclusively so maybe leaving a bad taste in my mouth is a good thing.
The biggest voice I have as a consumer is to share my displeasure with my clients, friends and family. Since I have a fairly large sphere of influence in the type of work I do, if I were to sway 2-3 three people in there home loan decisions, that could result in possibly over $1 million dollars of interest over the life of a typical 30 year mortgage.
You would think a company would value there customer's more rather than squeeze $26 in bogus fees out of them.
